Dwyane Wade and Travis Diener are launching the Wade & Diener Home Court Weekend, a charity event to raise money for local literacy programs and Marquette athletics.
What is the event about?
The event will feature two signature, ticketed events that showcase downtown Milwaukee's culinary scene, including Court to Cork and Pages & Plates.
The weekend will kick off on July 16 with Court to Cork, an evening at Central Standard Crafthouse & Kitchen where Wade and Diener will compete for tips as guest bartenders.
Why is the event important for Dwyane Wade?
The event is important for Dwyane Wade as it supports his philanthropic investments in Marquette, including the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program, which he launched in 2015 with a $195,000 donation.
In 2024, Wade committed $3 million to Marquette to grow the summer reading program and support a new men's basketball practice facility.
What comes next for the event?
The event will also feature a youth basketball clinic at The Facility in Mequon, and organizers are seeking additional sponsors.
Wade was in Mequon to pay a surprise visit to the youth girls basketball players participating in Diener's elite basketball camp at The Facility sports complex.
The Wade & Diener Home Court Weekend will take place from July 16-18 and will raise money for the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program, the Visit Milwaukee Foundation, and other Marquette initiatives.
The event's first recipient of the Wade Scholars Program is Kennedi Luckett, a Marquette student who is currently working as an intern at Visit Milwaukee.
